When do you need a car roadworthy certificate?
A car roadworthy certificate is required in Queensland when you sell a registered light vehicle to a new owner, transfer registration to someone else, or re-register a vehicle that has been off the road. It confirms that key safety items met the required standard at the time of inspection. The certificate does not cover every mechanical aspect of the car, but it covers the required safety items that Queensland Transport specifies as safety-critical.
What the inspection covers
The roadworthy inspection is a defined check, not a general mechanical assessment. At RWC HUB we work through the full list: brakes, suspension, steering geometry, tyres (tread depth and condition), exterior lights, body integrity, glass, seat-belts and seating, and a few other items the Department of Transport requires. If a component fails, we note it on the report and discuss the options with you before any repair work is done.
How long does a car RWC take?
Most standard passenger car inspections take around 30 to 45 minutes. Larger vehicles such as SUVs, dual-cabs and 4WDs can take a bit longer because there is more to check. We will give you a time estimate when you book so you can plan your day around the inspection.
